Keeping track of your sources

Citation managers are digital tools that help store and organize citations, and create both in text citations and bibliographies.

The University of Maine Libraries subscribe to a reference manager called Refworks.

There are many citation tools available.

Unintentional plagiarism can easily happen if you don't keep track of the papers that you read and the websites that you use. The easiest way to avoid plagiarism is by using a reference manager to keep track of your sources.

 RefWorks:

  • Store resources for papers and projects

  • Has an add-on for Google Docs to insert in-text citations directly into your paper

  • Automatically formats citations in your style of choice

  • Create a bibliography/list of references at the end of your paper

If you are not a member of the UMaine community, check to see if your home library

subscribes to a reference manager.
